College Planning
The Common Application (Common App) is a single college application you can use to apply to many public and private colleges and universities. The Common App is an easy option to compile all your personal information, transcript, essays, recommendation letters, and more to submit to colleges, especially compared to filling out individual applications for each college or university.
The Big Future (College Board) website contains information and resources for college planning, careers, and financial aid. Students can sign in through their College Board account. Be entered into a drawing for scholarships when you complete steps in the college planning process!
Find a list of Michigan public and private colleges here. The list contains institution-specific information related to admissions and financial aid, in addition to contact information.
Financial Support
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®)
The single most important step you can take to get money for college is to complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). The FAFSA is the gateway to more than $150 billion in college grants, work-study funds, federal student loans, state aid, as well as many scholarships.
The FAFSA application process opens on December 1 and the Michigan deadline is May 1. Go to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) website to apply. Apply early to receive the best possible financial opportunities!
Filling out the FAFSA is key for getting money for college and career training!
Genesee Opportunity
The Genesee Opportunity (GO) stipend provides Genesee County high school graduates with money for college, career training, or certification licensing fees. To be eligible, you must reside in Genesee County, Michigan or on a property that is taxed by a Genesee County school district and be a graduate from a high school in Genesee County.
The GO stipend is not based on income or grades and is funded through a millage approved by Genesee County voters.
